The Mackinaw City Public School music department provides music education to students in grades K-12. The department is committed to fostering an appreciation of fine arts, and introducing all students to the basic fundamentals of music. The music department provides opportunities for students to further their music education through band courses offered to students in grades four and above.
Mackinaw City is a proud member of MSBOA (Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association), and participates each year in MSBOA events, including solo & ensemble festival and band festival. School performances for students in grades K-12 include our annual holiday concert in December and spring concert in May.
For students in grades 6-12, students have the opportunity to participate in concert band, pep band and jazz band. The band participates each year in the Mackinaw City Memorial Day parade. Our pep band performs at most home basketball games throughout the girls' and boys' season.
Our music program is directed by Ms. Katie Anderson, who joined our school district in the fall of 2017. She earned her bachelor's degree in music education from Western Michigan University.
