Music Department
The Mackinaw City Public School music department provides music education to students in grades preK-12. The department is committed to fostering an appreciation of fine arts, and introducing all students to the basic fundamentals of music. The music department provides opportunities for students to further their music education through band courses offered to students in grades four and above.
Mackinaw City is a proud member of MSBOA (Michigan School Band and Orchestra Association), and participates each year in MSBOA events, including solo & ensemble festival and band festival. Copies of the schedule of events for the year, can be found on the school Facebook page or paper copies are available in the band room.
For students in grades 6-12, students have the opportunity to participate in concert band and pep band. The band participates each year in the Mackinaw City Memorial Day parade. Our pep band performs at home basketball events during the girls' and boys' season.
Our music program is directed by Mrs. Katie Yoder, who joined our school district in the fall of 2017. She earned her bachelor's degree in music education from Western Michigan University.
